Service Pack 2 (SP2) adds advanced security technologies and innovations to Windows XP. SP2 implements strong security infrastructure that defends against viruses, worms and hackers, delivers increased manageability and control of security infrastructure for IT professionals and improves the ability of users to be both safe and productive at the same time.

In an effort to help IT professionals jumpstart their planning and testing for deployments of SP2, Microsoft is offering the SP2 Technical Preview Program based on the RC1 milestone of SP2. To participate in the Technical Preview Program, you need only navigate to the following web site:

From this site, you have access to the RC1 full network install package in English, German and Japanese versions. Additionally, links to the most important SP2 content are available, including the latest and most comprehensive version of the document “Changes to Functionality in Service Pack 2 for Microsoft Windows XP“.

Finally, eleven new newsgroups are available to aid the community of participants in the Technical Preview Program in sharing tips and feedback with each other as well as with Microsoft developers, testers and support professionals. These newsgroups are available through links on the Technical Preview Program site.

Note: the software available through the Technical Preview Program is for testing purposes only. It is not intended for and should not be used in production environments.
